Calling all moms (or wives with messy husbands)(or messy women)(or people who like spaghetti)...
Have you ever had to throw away a good shirt because those stubborn spaghetti stains would not come out? I ALMOST did!
My friends I have to share with you a solution I found to getting those stains out. I wish for goodness sake I would have taken a before and after picture to prove it but you'll just have to trust me on this one.
My son ate spaghetti the other day and got it ALL over his white shirt and khaki pants. Let's pause for just a second. I know what you are thinking...why did you feed him spaghetti while wearing that? To prove that I'm not a total Mommy Fruit-Loop, it was Wednesday night supper at church and I forgot the menu items for that night. So there!
Okay, back to the great phenomenon. After I rushed home I...
Step One: Stripped him down to his skin.
Step Two: Soaked the stained spots in Shout.
Step Three: Rubbed the stains with the edge of a spoon to really break up those fibers. (Much easier than your fingernail).
Step Four: I washed it in the hottest water
And Wa-La! The stain was still there! Granite, faded a bit, but still there!
Darn, I then repeated Steps Two-Four again, and again, and again. In other words, I washed the clothes four times WITHOUT drying in between. (This is an important side note) After about all that, the stain was faded but still very noticeable and never to be worn in public. I was so discouraged because the outfit was a good "church" outfit and I couldn't bare to throw it out. So I resulted to searching on the Internet for alternate solutions. (Remember, the garments are still wet, never have been dried by this point). I searched and searched and found an idea that couldn't hurt to try. Besides, there's nothing else I could have done but use them as play clothes. I tried this idea and what do you know, IT TOOK THE WHOLE STAINS OUT! I could NOT believe it! It didn't fade the stains, IT REMOVED ALL OF THEM!
The End.

The most wonderful solution to getting those stubborn spaghetti stains removed after washing them four times, scraping a spoon with Shout between each cycle is to HANG THEM UP WHILE THEY ARE STILL WET TO DRY IN THE SUN! Yes, my frustrated Mommy-Friends. The SUN removed those stains. I could not believe it. No more, Bye-Bye, vanished. I just had to share my "Ray of Sunshine" discovery.
Disclaimer: I do not promote dumping spaghetti sauce on a nice white shirt to experiment with this idea. Nor am I promoting this works on two and a half year old stains. Please re-cloth your child/children after stripping them down for the sake of modesty purposes, please. And Thank You.

What!?!?! Wow, who knew!. What an amazing discovery. So glad you decided it to share it! ; )
So glad you got them out...very frustrating! I swear by Oxiclean. Spray it on there before you wash it, let it sit as long as you want, and don't dry it till you see the stain is gone. Maybe that will help too. :) Have a blessed day!

The SUN?!! Wow.. hard to believe. Although, I do believe because it worked for you.
I wish I would've known this when my kids were younger and constantly getting spaghetti on them. :) However, I'm sure I can still put it to use and we are not totally stain free yet. :)
Who would've thunk it??? Not me. If you knew how OCD I was, then you'd know that I'm having spaghetti one day this week just to try it out. Seriously, I have to see this one for myself.
Don't worry, I'll check the weather the day that I plan on cooking it just to make sure there's sunshine in the forcast. (Told you I was OCD.)
That's great to know! I remember when Kathy Tidmore ( your mom in laws friend, well mine too) would send her kids to school in a black t-shirt on spaghetti day. She was very organized like that.
You are such a hoot, woman. Love the suspense. I couldn't read and move my mouse fast enough to get to the end.
My question...would this have worked if you had only washed say one or twice or thrice? What if you had not scrubbed as hard or with said spooon. Seriously, what did the online sight say? I mean, if we have to replicate exactly what you did...it might never happen.
Love it anyway.
Now that you mention it, I've heard that before but forgot! Thanks for the reminder!! That could really come in handy! Hope it works with ketchup too...and chocolate icecream! Sometimes that stuff won't budge!
Natalie...what a great tip!! And you had me hanging on by my fingernails there..!:)
I am here because someone has nominatd you for an AWESOME Blog 2009 Award! Stop by and see what category someone thought you rocked!

I will definately take before and after pictures of the spaghetti spots. lol I love that tip and will pass it on to other moms who have tossed clothes in the play pile because of these stains.
Great post.
Ha ha... you're so cute. :) Great tip, because YES, I do have faded stains on the kids' clothes which have found a new home in the bottom of the closet as clothes to wash the car in or to do yard work in. (Wow - horrible run-on sentence which I'm not going back to fix.) Thanks for the tip!
Oh, and I know this is an old post... I am once again playing catch up. Ugh.
